Business Context and Use

This process component provides services that enable you to access and manage product data in SAP Customer Relationship Management (CRM) using a master data management solution or external application. It could, for example, allow applications such as internet stores to access information about products that is stored in SAP CRM.
The following product types are supported:

The process component enables you to create and maintain product data using a range of service operations. The service operations available support the following typical scenarios:

Materials, services, warranties, and objects (to some degree) are technically products of different product types. Each product of these product types is created in the SAP CRM backend system using the product framework. The underlying structure of all these entities is therefore very similar.

The product type describes the basic characteristics of a product. It also determines to which product categories a product can be assigned, thus defining the structure of the product and how it can be used.

Products are identified by a compound key:

When products are created and a logical system passed, this is "inherited" by all data parts of the product. It is not possible to to pass different logical systems for different data records, such as the category assignment or sales organization. However, a logical system can be passed for references to other materials or service products, since it is part of the logical key.
