Business Context and Use

You can use the Create Demand Forecast inbound operation to create a demand forecast for a single location product.

Features

When you create a demand forecast, the back-end system is supplied with new key figure values and new time series. The system gets these from the Service Parts Planning  processor, which can be an external planning system. The new key figure values and time series can then be used to trigger further steps in the back-end system.

The Create Demand Forecast request message accepts the following data as input:

• Planning version
• Location
• Product
• Virtual child location indicator
• Third-party order processing indicator
• Key figure name
• Key figure values
• Time series period
• Demand forecast strategy code

If successful, the operation returns a confirmation message that includes the ID of the demand forecast and all key input data (per request message list above). If the operation is unsuccessful, no demand forecast is created in the back-end, and the operation returns an error message in the log.

Error Handling

In case of errors, one or multiple error messages are returned in the log of the response message, for example:

• Authorization error: Applies to SAP Supply Chain Management (SAP SCM) 7.0 and above only. Check if authorization object C_APO_UIP is maintained for the user, and that the forecast planner assigned to the user matches the forecast planner assigned to the location product in the product master data.
• Timestamp conversion error: Provide the timestamp in the correct format.
• Master data-related errors: Check that the provided location, product and other master data is valid and exists in the back-end system.
• Time series does not exist: Check the demand forecast ID input. (Note: This error can apply to all Service Part Demand Forecast inbound operations except Create Demand Forecast  and Create Demand Forecasts , per the information immediately following.)
• Other time series-related errors: A demand forecast time series can be created only if the time series does not already exist in the back-end system. In case the time series already exists, it should be either deleted using the Cancel Demand Forecast or Cancel Demand Forecasts inbound operations, or modified using the Change Demand Forecast or Change Demand Forecasts inbound operations.
