This Change Physical Inventory Count service operation enters the counted quantities into a physical inventory count document in order to have accurate inventory information on material inventory-managed location and identified stock on batch level. The Change Physical Inventory Count service operation is a generic operation that can be used in all industries which do physical inventory counting for their products and materials and where physical inventory count documents need to be changed.
The most frequent use of this service operation will be for add-hoc inventory counting triggered by physical incidents. It can also be used for other applications that want to transfer counting information to inventory count documents in SAP ERP. This service operation is also often used for correcting errors while handling physical inventory transactions when it is easier to adjust the inventory via physical counting rather than corrective goods movements. Also there might be organizational reasons to regularly count physical stock quantities.
The Create Physical Inventory Count service operation can be used to create physical inventory count documents before executing the Change Physical Inventory Count .
To capture the count information in the physical inventory count document, you need to retrieve the line item information of the document (typically using the Read Physical Inventory Count operation. You can list all material items of the document including the necessary information on the stock qualification and the ownership of the material.
The main purpose of this
Change Physical Inventory Count
service operation is to change the physical inventory count document according to the quantities that have been counted. In addition, it allows you to change some information on the document header level. Finally, it is possible to change individual items of the physical inventory count document.
The following elements must be supplied:
The counted quantities can be entered in the standard stock-keeping unit or in an alternative unit. If the quantity is zero, this needs to be explicitly indicated by using the Zero Count Quantity Indicator.
If there are obvious errors in the document, for example, items that do not result in zero count, these items can be deleted by using the related “deletion indicator”.
When changing the document you can adjust some information on header level. On the item level the service allows to enter the physical counted quantities. If wrong quantities are entered, they can either be corrected by using this service operation to update the physical inventory document with the correct quantity. If counting is started or if all items have a count information, the corresponding counting status is set in the document.
Once you have saved all this information via the service operation, a message is returned: Either the operation has been carried out successfully or standard error handling applies.
If the operation is carried out successfully a success message is returned; if not, standard error handling applies.
After the physical count output is included in the document, the subsequent activities are typically performed by other users and roles. Therefore, the trigger for the adjustment transactions is currently not offered as a service.
It is not possible to add items using this service. If new stock has been found during the physical inventory count, this needs to be reported by creating a new physical inventory count document with the relevant material line items.
You must activate the Physical Inventory (MM-IM-PI) application component in your ERP back-end system.
The INV_SE_PHYINVCTCHGRC Business Add-In (BAdI) is available for this service operation (Enhancement spot: INV_SPOT_SE_PHYSICAL_INVENTORY).
